Description

The 2024 Presidential Election is once again putting the spotlight on the Electoral College. If you would like your students to have a better understanding of the Electoral College allotment and the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win an election, this map activity set can help! These maps give students a visual representation of the Electoral College breakdowns for the 2012, 2016, and 2020 elections and help them analyze election results and trends. Students can use the past maps to predict the 2024 election using the included updated 2024 Presidential Election map with the new Electoral College allotments based on the 2020 Census.

This download contains 5 different Electoral College map activities for the 2012-2024 Presidential elections:

(1) 2012 Presidential Election Map: Students will use the included PowerPoint (2 slides) to complete the map illustrating the breakdown of electoral votes for Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.

(2) 2016 Presidential Election Map: Students will use the included PowerPoint (2 slides) to complete the map illustrating the breakdown of electoral votes for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Students can also use the blank map to create ‘what if . . .” scenarios for the election.

(3) 2020 Presidential Election Map: Students will use the included PowerPoint (2 slides) to complete the map illustrating the breakdown of electoral votes for Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Students can also use the blank map to create ‘what if . . .” scenarios for the election.

(4) 2024 Presidential Election Map: Have students predict the Electoral College outcome based on the 2012, 2016, and 2020 maps. Students can also complete the map as the results are announced on election day and, again, when electors cast their ballots. Students can also use the blank map to create ‘what if . . .” scenarios for the election.

(5) 2024 Electoral College Breakdown Map: Students answer questions about the map to become more familiar with the allotment of electoral votes.
